CCASA Information Day 2016
Held in the beautiful Barossa Valley ...
On Friday, 15 April 2016, CCASA held their Annual Information Day and AGM at the Greenock Cemetery and Community Hall in the Barossa Valley, with a sponsor’s dinner at the Barossa Novotel the Thursday evening.
The 2016 Information Day took a different approach by holding concurrent sessions: a Cemetery Operations stream held outside in the Greenock Cemetery, and a Cemetery Administration stream inside the Greenock Community Hall. The day concluded with a visit to the privately owned Seppelts Family Mausoleum.
The presentations covered:
-
Implementation of the Burial and Cremation Act 2013
-
Highly Topical Burials on Private Land
-
Cemetery Symbolism and Imagery
-
Open Grave - Solution to WHS Risk
-
a tour of the Greenock Cemetery looking at cemetery markers and their significance
-
a machinery demonstration from Wacker Neuson
A satisfaction survey revealed the new format with concurrent streams to be a resounding success, although difficult for some as they had to choose between topics and ultimately miss one that was as interesting as the other. There was a pleasing turnout with 89 people travelling to the Barossa to attend.
Darren Leuders Customer Service Award
Each year at the Information Day the winner of the Darren Leuders Customer
Service Award is announced. The award is presented in memory of Darren Leuders
to ‘any employee of a CCASA member who has performed above and beyond the
call of duty in providing excellence in customer service.’
The award is kindly sponsored by Phoenix Foundry and the
Australasian Cemeteries and Crematoria Association (ACCA).
The winner of the 2015/16 Darren Leuders Customer Service Award is
David Manders.
David is the current Honorary Curator of Willunga Catholic Parish Cemetery.
This is a volunteer unpaid position that David has held for more 20 years. David is a very worthy winner as his colleagues and community members note that he makes himself available above and beyond what is required to help families at an emotional stage in their lives. He is professional and compassionate at all times.
